This group is dedicated to the timely benchmarking of Rehabilitation and Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) programs as integral components of the patient journey.

The group will continue the progress made in previous meetings by:

  • Developing specific sub-acute benchmarking reports that focus on quality and safety of patients
  • Examining and benchmarking a consistent and complete data set of SNAP coded patient data
  • Measuring and benchmarking performance across the total patient journey including ED, acute, sub-acute and ambulatory care.
2017 Guest Speakers

Dr Simone Dorsch

Simone is a physiotherapy clinician, researcher and educator. She is a senior rehabilitation physiotherapist at Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital in Sydney, and a lecturer at the Australian Catholic University. Her current research focuses on strengthening interventions after stroke and strategies to increase practice intensity in rehabilitation.

She is a presenter with the StrokeEd group and teaches workshops on evidence based stroke rehabilitation and intensity of practice in Australia and internationally.

Associate Professor Mark Yates

Mark Yates is a consultant physician in geriatric medicine and Director of Clinical Studies at the Grampians Clinical School, Deakin University.

Mark is a consultant in the Grampians Region Cognitive, Dementia and Memory Service (CDAMS) at Ballarat Health Services.

Mark is a member of the team at Ballarat Health Services that developed the Dementia Care in Hospitals Program, which is an all of hospital education program linked to a bedside cognitive impairment alert the Cognitive Impairment Identifier. This program has been introduced into 25 public and private hospitals across Victoria. With grant funding from the Australian Government, the DCHP had been rolled out to four hospitals across four states and territories. This national rollout evaluation forms part of Mark’s PhD candidature at the University of NSW.

Mark is on the NCSQHC Cognitive Impairment Advisory Group and the Ministers Dementia Advisory Group he is a past member of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee and a past President of AMA Victoria.

NAO Humanoid Robot

The NAO Humanoid Robot is leading the way in innovative and novel rehabilitation technologies. 

Some of the current projects include; research into rehabilitating brain and spinal cord injuries, assisting those on the Autism Spectrum, and providing Occupational Therapists with a powerful new tool for rehabilitation therapies

Participants will work with their own health service team again to refine their Aim Statement and Action Plan based on the good ideas you have heard.
All plans will be placed on wall posters for general improvement discussion / suggestions by other teams.
Teams to input into our online system the key issues / things they need help with around their Action plan.
