The End of Life Care Improvement Group aim is to improve the provision of high quality end of life care by sharing information on implementing innovative and effective practice. The group receives 6-monthly reports that contain both operational and clinical data and shares information through an annual workshop.

The 2020 End of Life Care Improvement Group will be held condcuted virtually on Wednesday August 5 and Thursday August 6. This year the End of Life Care Improvement Group will share data and stories about caring for individuals and families at the end of life. The theme of this meeting is "Death and bereavement care" with a focus on measuring quailty of dying and models of bereavement care. The goal of this imprvment grousp is to embed the importance of quality End of Life care in the whole of health system.

Voluntary Assisted Dying - lessons learned at a Victorian hospital in the first year

Dr Danielle Ko
Clinical Ethics Lead, Clinician Engagement Lead- Quality and Patient Safety, Austin Health, Palliative Care Physician

Dr Danielle Ko trained as a lawyer and GP in Australia before completing fellowships in both medical ethics and palliative medicine in Boston, USA.  Danielle is now a palliative care consultant at Austin Health and the Clinical Ethics Lead for the institution. Danielle’s area of expertise is in the intersection of medicine, law and clinical ethics as it relates to everyday clinical practice as well as at the end of life. Her current research interests are in informed consent and voluntary assisted dying.

Dr Andrew Watkins is a Consultant Neonatologist whose  primary responsibility being neonatal intensive care. He has a strong interest in Perinatal Palliative Care, Bioethics, Language use, Religious and cultural issues in NICU, Parent support and Psychology of NICU.
