When the team at Middlemore built a new theatre suite, which opened in February 2014, they used the opportunity to implement some exciting innovations to improve on theatre utilisation.

Spearheading the innovation was a purpose built space, known as “theatre central”, where teams can “huddle” and discuss priorities. Most impressive was the development of “CapPlan”, a dashboard providing teams with up-to-date stats on theatre, patient and emergency department status, staff rosters and projected demand. Real time data has enabled better decision-making on acute theatre allocation, resulting in reduced delays to theatre.
