Dr Richard Ashby, Chief
Executive of Metro South Hospital & Health Service in Brisbane, highlighted
the transformation of Princess Alexandra Hospital at a recent Health Roundtable
meeting. Dr Ashby participated in the first Health Roundtable twenty
years ago, and has been involved with the organisation ever since. He said that since 1995 member hospitals have reinvested hundreds of
millions of dollars in improved efficiency by implementing ideas gained at
Health Roundtable meetings. Thousands of senior health managers,
clinicians and executives have participated in workshops and developed
improvement action plans over the 20 year history of the organisation.
Dr Ashby explained how Princess Alexandra have used HRT data and innovation
sharing to reduce their relative stay index 35%, improve their day-of-surgery
admission rate by 25%, and to transform their finances from deficit to
consistent surplus over the last ten years.
