Wollongong Hospital’s Emergency Department decided it was
time to update its paper based bedside booking system for emergency and trauma
surgery, especially as this represented 60% of all surgery or about 6000
bookings a year.
Wollongong introduced an “eMR” booking system for all
emergency and trauma surgery. Within 5 weeks of implementation, the new
electronic system had logged 491 bookings, with clinical information mandated
and instant reporting on all aspects of the booking. It is estimated that patient time in ED will
be reduced by over 600 hours a year through the use of this new booking system.
